The Danserey Landshut is a group performing original dances and music from the Renaissance times in historical costumes.
We are meeting regularly in Landshut to learn new dances and to work on our program. For sure, we also enjoy just having fun. But the highlights of the Danserey year are the shows and performances on several historic celebrations and events.

In 1551 the Dutch publisher Tilman Susato issued a book with tunes: "daer inne begrepen syn alderhande danserye". These words "a lot of dances" are the source of our name Danserey, under which we already demonstrated our dances on a lot of historical festivals throughout Bavaria/Germany.
Everything started in 1980, when Caterina von Behm conducted a dancing group at the Volkshochschule (adult education center) Landshut/Bavaria. Soon, several people were meeting regularly, concentrating on dances from the Middle Ages.
In 1986 the new leader Stephan Erber took over. Under his leadership the group decided to choose the name "Danserey", referring to the book with tunes from the publisher Tilman Susato. Now the dream of presenting old dances from the Renaissance in selfmade costumes became reality.
During the following years the program developed further. The money we got for our demonstrations was used to prepare more costumes and to buy special music instruments. In addition, a lot was made easier, because we could participate at the Volkshochschule Landshut as an official dancing group.
In 1999 Stephan Erber handed over the leadership of the group to Michael Böhm. Together with several new people we were able to build up a new program for the year 2000. From 2001 to 2007 we were learning new dances supported by our dancing teacher Winfried Bloche. Since then Harald Hofmeister is leading the dancing-group.
In 2003 we did another big step: On June, 22nd, 2003 the association "Danserey Landshut e.V." was founded. Now we are registered as nonprofit organization in the official register of Landshut with number 1318. You can find more about the association in the German part of this Internet-page at Verein.
